Organic Waste Pickup Program
Since 2013, food scraps and other organic materials have been separated from general household waste under Metro Vancouver’s plan to ban all residential organic waste from landfills by 2015. Currently, all waste picked up by Ajm Disposal is delivered to Wastech and then shipped to the Cache Creek landfill. Studies show that 30% – 40% of residential waste consists of organic materials, mainly food waste.
With our organic waste program, collected organic waste stays local for composting and is converted into soil and other useful products. By reducing the tonnage sent to landfills, we help lower tipping fees, greenhouse gas emissions, and the overall environmental impact—leading to a more sustainable future.
How to Participate

Use Your Current Waste Can or add a new disposal
can (maximum 77L – 80L). -
Choose Durable Waste Cans with two sturdy
handles for easy handling and dumping. -
Ensure Your Can Has a Water-Tight, Removable Lid
that stays secure. -
Apply the Provided "Organics" Label to your designated
cans, ensuring the label faces the street on pickup days. - Use As Many Organics Containers as Needed—no limits!

How it Works
Step 1
Line a kitchen food scrap container with newspaper or a reusable food tub, like an ice cream container. No plastic bags!
Step 2
Collect food scraps in your kitchen bin and transfer them to your Organic Can.
Step 3
Line your large Green Can with newspapers or cardboard for easy cleanup.
Step 4
Mix organics with yard waste and leaves to aid decomposition and reduce odors.
