AjM’s Story

Norm Torgerson founded AJM Disposal in Surrey, BC, naming the business after his sons’ initials (Aaron, Jordan, and Matt). He strategically chose "A" to be first, ensuring a prime spot in the alphabetical listings of telephone books.

Nicole was born. (see below for more details)

When Norm left, Gail Winkelmann assumed ownership and was determined to keep AJM Disposal thriving. She worked tirelessly to rebuild and grow the company. Her success was recognized in BCBusiness Week magazine in 2004.

Matt Torgerson (Norm and Gail's son) joined the organization to assist in future growth planning. All three Torgerson brothers worked within the organization during this time.

AJM Disposal introduced curbside subscription services in Maple Ridge, offering residents reliable and convenient waste and organic disposal.

With significant growth beyond Surrey and Maple Ridge, the business outgrew its basement office in the family home, prompting a move to a larger office space with room to expand the team.

Expansion to the Sunshine Coast, providing residential and commercial services in partnership with Salish Soils.

AJM proudly serves Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and the Sunshine Coast, continuing its legacy as a strong, family-driven business committed to excellence in waste management and looking for the next opportunity to grow.

Nicole, the daughter of Norm & Gail, who arrived after the naming of AJM, is now the manager responsible for this website and the business' branding. There are no plans to add her initial at this time, but this information must be stated.
